Groupon has acquired tours and activities marketplace SideTour with terms of the deal undisclosed.

The acquisition comes hot on the heels of Groupon’s purchase of same-day hotel service Blink last week.

SideTour, founded in New York in July 2011, aims to offer unique tours and experiences by hooking customers up with local experts.

In a statement GrouponLive general manager Greg Rudin says:

“the acquisition furthers its vision as the go-to place for consumers to find just about anything, anywhere, anytime.”

SideTour will continue to operate as a separate business with Groupon distributing its events to an audience of 43 million active customers via email, web and mobile.

The statement goes on to say that SideTour, which operates in four US cities, currently offers more than 500 public and private events with more than 400 hosts using the platform.

SideTour was part of TechStars NYC accelerator program and has raised capital from Foundry Group and RRE Ventures.

The tours and activities sector has seen a fair bit of consolidation in recent months with GetYourGuide’s acquisition of Gidsy in April and iGottaGuide in July.

This is not Groupon’s first foray into the activities space as the deals giant acquiring Uptake in 2012. The Uptake service now redirects to Groupon Local.

Where next as Groupon begins to make good on its promise to get deeper into travel?
